HAPPY NEW YEAR from everyone at Tuning the Air!

We are on a brief holiday break, returning to rehearsal in January.

The 2011 season will open on February 10

2010 has been a milestone year for Tuning The Air! It featured the debut of new music director Chris Gibson, who took us deeper into the world of improvisation and “spontaneous composition”. We have also seen a number of new pieces of music, including King Crimson’s Vrooom, a haunting version of Neptune from Gustav Holst’s “The Planets”, a new scorcher from Bob Williams Ninth Guitar E and perhaps even a few more surprises before closing night In addition to new music, we’ve continued to work with electric guitarist and texturist Joel Palmer and oboist Darlene Franz. Both have contributed astounding new textures and layers to our repertoire and improvisations.

Already new material and new ideas are being discussed for the 2011 season!

2010 has been a milestone year for Tuning The Air! Come celebrate the completion of our 2010 season with us. This will be the last chance to experience this great new music until we return in February of 2011.

  • Tuning The Air Ensemble to open for California Guitar Trio

Members of the Tuning The Air Ensemble will be opening for The California Guitar Trio, Wednesday November 10th at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center at 8PM.

    From the official press release:

The CALIFORNIA GUITAR TRIO and their progressive jazz/rock pals celebrate 20 years together by coming up with a bag breaker that sounds nothing like what has come before in their generous discography. They may have started out as the back bone of the League of Crafty Guitarists but they have moved on from the Fripp/Crimson vibe in a big way while still respecting their roots. Their brand new album, Andromeda is a dazzling instrumental set that doesn’t come within a mile of a cliché, it’s one of those magical sets that blows progressive ears wide open to the new possibilities. Hot stuff throughout.

Opening for the CALIFORNIA GUITAR TRIO will be an ensemble of players from the weekly production, TUNING THE AIR, whose guitar circulations were called “magical notes around the circumference of Fremont Abbey” by the Seattle Times. Each performance is simultaneously trance-inducing and surprising, with repertoire that includes original compositions and improvisations, as well as ensemble arrangements of music by various artists, ranging in genre from classical to progressive rock.

Location: Fremont Abbey Arts Center, 4272 Fremont Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103

Date/Time:  Wednesday, Nov 10, 2010,  Doors open at 7:00 PM, show runs from 8:00-10:00 PM
This show is all ages. Tickets: $17 online , $20 at the door

    See you there!
